Finding the Place – Bev Gibbons & Nicole Kabisch

Difficult, stressful, and traumatic things happen to therapists too. How do we find the place, in ourselves, in work, to account for the change, and maintain clinical boundaries during and after such experiences.

Looking backwards, to our last contact with clients before our experience, may seem a life time ago, when we were different people. Looking forward may feel daunting. How do we decide when, whether, how to continue working? How much do we self-disclose? What is safe, ethical practice?

We invited you to explore some ideas with us about how we found that place where we could maintain clinical boundaries and remained congruent and open with our clients. We used TA thinking from, predominantly, the relational approach, and integrated this with consideration of ethics and safeguarding.
